Some people swear by down fill for their jackets and sleeping bags/quilts (better durability, better warmth:weight ratio).

Personally, I think you have to consider it all in context. Making choices is not as dogmatic as you think it has to be, and if you ever read dogma like "Why you should always select a down jacket over a synthetic" or "Why synthetic jackets are bad for the environment" or other silly clickbait titles, be wary.
