How To Insert A Fishtail Nose Ring

How To Insert A Fishtail Nose Ring

Fishtail nose rings are an odd looking piece of nose jewelry. They are pin-straight and extra long, meaning they won't fit into your nose as-is... Why are they made this way? What's the purpose of a fishtail nose ring if you can't wear it right away?

Understanding Medusa (Philtrum) Piercings

Understanding Medusa (Philtrum) Piercings

Unlike a monroe or madonna piercing (which are located on the left or right of the upper lip), the medusa piercing is located in the exact center of the lip. It's a unique placement that has a sleek and symmetrical look, and aesthetically, it works well with the anatomy of the philtral ridges. Medusa piercings are typically adorned with...

Stretched ears are iconic af. They're a huge part of my personal aesthetic (I have no plans to change that any time soon), but I also acknowledge that I have passed the "point of no return" when it comes to my lobes. That's not a bad thing - it just means if I decide to stop wearing plugs, even after my ear shrinks up, I'll still have the look of what was once a stretched ear.

I'm not sure I'll ever pursue it... But if you're "outgrown" the stretched ear look or are looking to move past that part of your life, there is a procedure you can get to "repair" your stretched ears. Here's what I found out:

Today's Topics:

- You might have to dig around locally (or not locally) to find someone who provides this procedure. Not every piercing studio or professional piercer might offer this service... So be patient and thorough!

- It's a little bit invasive, but it's relatively quick... About 20 to 30 minutes. Expect some local anesthesia, scalpels, stitching, and bandages. Most people report it's pretty painless!

- One thing to note - you won't be able to get your ear wet for about 48 hours... So make sure you wash your hair and do a bit of self-care before you head into the procedure.

- There is a chance of scarring - but a stretched ear hole is already a different kind of scar to begin with. Depending on the scar tissue, you may even be able to get your ears re-pierced once you've fully healed.

- This is just preliminary look at this procedure! I am NOT a professional piercer, so I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience with stretched lobe repair or any piercers who perform this procedure.

Feel free to reach out to DearAlley@bodycandy.com to let me know your personal experiences.

Dear Alley

2 years and my piercing still isn't healed!?

Dear Alley
Alley S.
BodyCandy's pierced pro & fashion forward diva

DEAR ALLEY:ย Iโ€™ve had my left side helix ear piercing for almost two years and itโ€™s still not healed completely. Every now and then it feels fine then sometimes it hurts and [seems] kinda infected. What should I do?

I love my piercing and want the other side done and to get my nose done, but I want this to heal first.

Thank you,
- Mackenzie

ALLEY: Hey Mackenzie,
ย
Cartilage piercings can be a real pain to heal
up. You're right that after two (2) years of heal time, your helix should be fully healed (cartilage piercings take about a year total to heal)... So let me ask a few clarifying questions to make sure we're on the right track...

My nose jewelry doesn't fit right. What size do I need?

DEAR ALLEY:ย I have my nose pierced individually on each side. The right side got done first, [then] the left side two (2) months later. Itโ€™s been almost 2 years now with them.

I donโ€™t think the left side got pierced correctly, as the stud sticks out a bit and get sensitive at times. Iโ€™ve been afraid to change them but the L shape post keeps sticking out of my nostrils. What gauge and style would you recommend using?

Thanks
- Carla

How can I make this bump disappear?

DEAR ALLEY: I have a question, I have an industrial (pierced 5 months ago), and I still have the two separate jewelry, and I created a bump in the upper piercing, what can I do to make it disappear?

And I have another question, when can I change the piercing jewelry to a barbell?

I love you,
- Beatrix
