| Free Express Shipping on $120+ Orders |  | Last week, in response to our nation’s ongoing protests demanding equality and in solidarity for the #BlackLivesMatter movement, Chaco made statements of support and followed with a week of thoughtful listening and reflection. We understand that the work required to address racism is impossible when individuals, groups, and organizations stay silent; and we also must humbly recognize our own shortcomings as a team and as a brand in the outdoor industry. We know we have work to do – and that work begins now.
We invited our #ChacoNation community to specifically make recommendations on where they would like to see Chaco start and how they would like to see us use our platforms to amplify and support Black voices. We were overwhelmed by the many thoughtful responses, which we have taken as tangible, immediate action steps to help get us started:
 Chaco will immediately make contributions to organizations that advance the #BlackLivesMatter cause and diversity outdoors. We are beginning by donating $20,000 across four specific organizations advocated for by our #ChacoNation community. They are:
The NAACP Legal Defense Fund in support of nationwide reforms for economic justice, criminal justice reform, voting rights, and educational equity.
Camp Founder Girls , America’s first historically Black summer camp for girls, founded in 1924 in response to the very discrimination we continue to witness today.
Michigan’s Outdoor Adventure Center, an immersive outdoor experience center located in Detroit, the country’s largest majority Black city, that offers youth and families in our home state access and exposure to the outdoors.
Outdoor Afro, an important organization driving Black connections and leadership in the outdoors.
These contributions are the first steps towards more meaningful partnerships that support the black community and people of color both in this moment and beyond.
 Chaco has much work to do on our own house when it comes to building a more diverse and representative team and brand. We’re starting with signing the Outdoor Diversity Pledge from the In Solidarity Project , which will connect our brand and leadership with inclusion advocates to advance representation for people of color on our team and in the outdoor industry.
 Starting with influencers, ambassadors, leaders, and advocates of color recommended by our community. These conversations will begin this month. We will use these conversations to assess our existing partnerships, ambassadors, and causes, with eyes on a more representative and diverse approach for Chaco’s future.
 We are exploring the ways we can do what we do best – designing and building sandals – to fund programs and causes that directly support #BlackLivesMatter and Black-run organizations driving change in the outdoors. Our goal is to create thoughtful collaboration products born out of meaningful dialogue, with the intention of donating all of the proceeds to these causes and organizations.
 We acknowledge our own privilege and the limitations of attempting change on our own without the guidance and partnership of diverse voices. This is why we are committing to establishing a paid Cultural Advisory Board to formalize our commitments and create accountability for the change we seek. We hope this board will coach and educate us on cultural sensitivity, diversity, and representation for marketing, communication strategies, and crisis response. We commit to receiving their guidance and compensating them for their work.
These are just the first steps on a long journey ahead. We know trails can be rocky, and we humbly acknowledge there will be missteps along the way. But we here at Chaco commit now to our community that we can and will do better, that we will be prepared to listen and learn, and that we’re committed to do the work that’s necessary to build a more diverse brand that can be an ally to the Black community and people of color everywhere, here in the outdoors and around the world.
