Elliott Erwitt, who died last year at the age of 95, had happy memories of taking this photograph of Marilyn Monroe in a New York hotel room in 1956. ‘It was just me and her, and she was going about her business,’ he recalled. ‘I found her very sympathetic… She was nice, smart, kind of amusing, and very approachable’
