Painted in 1960, Flowering Judas 2 is an early masterpiece by Lynne Drexler. The artist was overlooked in her later years, which she spent living as a self-described ‘hermit’ on an island off the Maine coast. But as this work shows, she had a rare genius for colour, producing canvases of mosaic-like beauty

Estimate: $300,000-500,000
9 November, New York

Photographer and filmmaker Youssef Nabil has made many portraits of his fellow artists, among them this 2007 work, Untitled (Shirin Neshat). He uses a largely forgotten technique, hand-colouring silver gelatin prints. ‘In this way,’ he has said, ‘I remove any remnants of present-day reality’

Estimate: £5,000-7,000
9 November, London

The destructive force of the sea is powerfully conveyed in this work by the Flemish artist Bonaventura Peeters, known for his paintings of shipwrecks. Yet The End of the Flood, with Noah’s Ark Atop Mount Ararat is an image of hope, with light piercing the clouds, and the mountain’s peak rising out of the waves

Estimate: €15,000-25,000
15 November, Paris

Issy Wood often paints on velvet rather than canvas. In Fanta/car interior, from 2019, the tactile material suggests the seductive quality typically used to sell cars to male buyers. As the artist explained, ‘It’s fun to try that on for size, to see what it would be like to be a man for whom this is a desirable object’

Estimate: $80,000-120,000
7 November, New York
