Our wetlands are some of our most ecologically important and awe-inspiring landscapes. Teeming with biodiversity, they are a lifeline for many of our endangered species and their natural infrastructure also provide essential protection against environmental issues like flooding, drought and pollution. Wetlands make up only 3% of the UK, but are home to around 10% of all our species, making them a paradise for wildlife and wildlife spotters alike. Check out our roundup of our favourite wetland sites to experience their unique appeal for yourself, and while you're there, our partners at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust have also provided their expertise on activities to do with the whole family on your wetlands adventure. |

Defending our wetlands against the many threats they face is essential to preserving the incredible biodiversity found here in the UK and the benefits to our daily lives that wetlands bring. Here are some changes you can make to help protect them: |
When visiting a wetland, always follow the site rules - they're designed to protect the area |
Wetlands are often seen as non-productive land so are at greater risk of being destroyed. Look out for and oppose construction projects which may damage wetlands |
Swap to eco-friendly household cleaning products where you can to reduce the amount of harmful chemicals in your waste water (which can be released into wetlands untreated) |
