Sometimes, when we have a symptom like chronic phlegm, we look at it as a disease. But let's face it… symptoms are just the result of something else going on in our bodies.

Let’s take a look at the case of chronic phlegm. When you have it, the mucus production in your throat can worsen at night. You may also notice other symptoms like postnasal drip, chronic cough, hoarseness, a sensation of a lump in your throat, or a sore throat without an infection.

If you're like most people, you probably assume allergies or a virus causes it—and that's not wrong. But what if there were other things at play?

Chronic phlegm is more likely caused by two other conditions: gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). Treatment for these two conditions can come with side effects and may even make your condition worse!

So what exactly is the culprit? Dr. Berg thinks that low stomach acid causes GERD or LPR, which can lead to chronic phlegm. In his YouTube video, he’ll explain why and what you can do about it.
