Earlier this week, Uber bought Postmates—taking another step toward its vision of being able to deliver everything under the sun. And today, the company is rolling out a new design that integrates its Eats business—a saving grace during the coronavirus pandemic, which saw Uber's rides business tumble by 80% in April—onto the app's home page. The new design is a signpost for Uber's future: In an exclusive interview, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi explains how COVID-19 accelerated the company's transformation from a ride-sharing company to a logistics platform that can deliver people, food, and things. “And just as Amazon went from books to overall retail and opened up their marketplaces to third parties, we think we can really extend the definition of movement from moving you from point A to B, to moving . . . anything you want to have delivered to you," he says.
