For June, designers can own strands of a rare blue gemstone: Afghanite. These beads come on a shaded strand, ranging from a translucent cool cream to an opaque nearly lapis blue. Afghanite is a sister stone to sodalite and lapis lazuli, showcasing the blues of a tropical seascape. Designers will see bright sky blue, deep-water navy blue and every shade in between—along with inclusions of white, grey or colorless material. The magic of this deeply included stone is that the non-blue parts are UV-reactive, fluorescing a creamy pumpkin orange under longwave UV light. Practitioners of gemstone healing say Afghanite can awaken spirituality, support mental health and balance the soul with the body.

These faceted rondelles are expertly hand-cut, with four sizes available: 4x2mm-4x3mm, 5x2mm-5x3mm, 5x3mm-6x4mm and 6x3mm-7x4mm. They’re drilled with the smallest of stringing holes for the best use of the limited material. These tiny drill holes require very fine-gauge wire or thin thread. Sizes, shapes and colors will vary with handcrafted items.
