Originally released in 1989, the Air Jordan 4 ‘Fire Red’ was destined to be a classic. Worn by MJ and matching the Chicago Bulls jersey, details on the Tinker Hatfield design stood out with NIKE AIR emblazoned on the back heel, a visible Air unit, Jumpman and Flight script logos on the tongue. Although there have been different retro versions over the years, the AJ4 ‘Fire Red’ returns in truest form.

The original from 1989 featured a taller collar height, not replicated in any of the subsequent retro editions. The 2020 version is the closest, but it remains shorter than the original.

NIKE AIR was emblazoned on the original, but it was replaced with the Jumpman on other iterations. The original logo returns on the latest version.

There have been a few different retros of the AJ4 ‘Fire Red,’ including a ‘Laser’ version with an all-over graphic, a Mars Blackmon graphic on the back heel of the 2006, and the traditional leather upper of the 1989, 2020 and 2012 editions.

The original 1989 featured NIKE on the outsole and this wasn’t seen again until the 2020 edition. The other iterations featured the Jumpman logo on the outsole.

Different boxes have been utilized throughout the different years of the AJ4 ‘Fire Red,’ including the black/cement box from the original release to the MJ face box and the anniversary box.
