Today the U.S. saw another record number of coronavirus deaths; but instead of fighting the virus as a country, it seems like every state must fight the battle alone. One example: the Federal Reserve, which has been hesitant to help states facing a cash crisis. So how are states doing? It varies. New York saw another record day of coronavirus deaths, but hospitalizations due to the virus have dropped. Michigan is still waiting for the worst to come, and has ordered portable refrigeration units to act as temporary morgues. Last night, Gov. Newsom of California announced that he signed a deal that would provide 200 million medical masks to the state each month; but what does that mean for other, poorer states still strapped for resources? It looks like they’ll have to fend for themselves for now.
