In Florida, one of the new Covid-19 infection hotspots, we are seeing things that are eerily similar to what New York experienced just a few months ago. More than 40 intensive care units in the state have hit maximum capacity, overwhelmed with new coronavirus cases. Also similar to New York: healthcare workers are still worried about more shortages of personal protective equipment, or PPE, including masks, gowns and hair covers. It begs the question: did we learn anything from the suffering of New York all those weeks ago? Or are we doomed to keep repeating this vicious cycle?
