It’s been a long time since Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and President Trump have been in the same room. Dr. Fauci used to be the voice of authority at the White House coronavirus press briefings, but lately there has been a widening of the rift between the president and one of his formerly close advisors. At a news conference today organized by the International AIDS Society, Dr. Fauci pushed back on President Trump’s recent comments that the majority of coronavirus cases are “totally harmless,” and also added that he hadn’t briefed the president in two months. Meanwhile, former FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb said today that as many as 1 in 150 people in the U.S. may be infected with Covid-19. Sounds like it probably isn’t the best time for there to be a rift between the President and his infectious disease expert. |
