Whether you need it for working from home, homework or just the work that comes with everyday life at home (paying bills, basically), a reliable desk is a must-have. That has never been more true than right now, when millions of professionals find themselves working remotely and millions of students are attending school online.
According to Long Island-based occupational therapist Elaine Krebs, when considering the best desk in terms of ergonomics, you need a desk height that allows for “correct posture with knees and hips at 90 degrees,” and with a “surface height that comes right at the middle of the elbow and shoulder.” A desk that’s too low or too high for its user will put undue stress on joints as the individual types, writes, drafts and so forth, so don’t think of desks as one-size-fits all, especially if you don’t have a great office chair that allows for easy adjustments. (An adjustable desk can help where multiple users are involved, but often at the sacrifice of storage space and style.) |
