An original member of the Antwerp six – an avant-garde assemblage of young designers from the city's Royal Academy of Fine Arts – Van Noten grew to prominence in the late 1980s. Yet, despite an expansive archive and an array of notable house tropes, he isn't sentimental about his designs:
“I’m not really nostalgic, because being nostalgic, I think, is admiring the past too much.”
