Hi EmailTuna EmailTuna,
A few weeks ago, I gave a talk at Stanford University. When I opened the floor up for questions, the first person to raise his hand was almost in tears. As he told his story, half the room—including me—teared up too.
The man’s name is Jason Spyres. Jason spent 15 years in prison. He wanted to turn his life around and realized that education was the way to do that. He started learning math from transcripts of Khan Academy videos that his mom printed for him. Once he was released, he continued to use Khan Academy, including our SAT practice, to further his education. Now, at 35, he studies computer science at Stanford. Truly amazing.
Stories like Jason’s are why Khan Academy exists. And they are only possible because we get support from people like you. Please join us.
After everyone left I asked Jason if he would tell his story again so I could record it on my phone. I promise it’s worth watching.
Jason insists “my story is only crazy because I was arrogant enough to apply to Stanford. There are tons of people like me.” He’s absolutely right. There are so many people who could transform their lives if they just had access to education.
Please help us keep Khan Academy free and accessible to people like Jason by giving a gift of $10, $50, or whatever you can afford, today.
Every story is powerful and every gift makes a difference.
Onward!
