To celebrate the launch of the new LACOSTE X MINECRAFT collaboration, Lacoste hosted a unique gaming event in Paris with players from all over the world. US Minecraft and Youtube stars Shelby Grace, a.k.a. @Shubble and Mari Takahashi, a.k.a. @AtomicMari joined the fun. Here, the influential gamers gave us their insights on how they see gaming and fashion unite under the croc. Read on to discover their favorite pieces from the collaboration.

What do you love most about the Minecraft gaming community? How is it different from other gaming communities?

Shubble: Everyone is so accepting of all the different play styles. You don’t have to be competitive, or you don’t have to be an amazing builder. There’s no wrong way to play, as long as you’re having fun! It’s a game made for anyone, whereas a lot of other gaming communities can feel pretty unwelcoming, I’ve never felt that way with Minecraft.

AtomicMari: Minecraft has got such diversity in playstyles within the community — from speedrunners to storytellers, mega map builders to solo adventurers. It's reflective of the game's versatility and how it gives agency to the player as a crafter — to shape, change, and mold its world —and for that reason, it creates an awesome mix of players.

What do you plan to build on Croco Island?

Shubble: I’d love to build myself a little vacation home to escape to! Maybe I’ll make it reminiscent of the room I stayed at in Paris to remember the whole experience!

AtomicMari: In lieu of being able to play tennis well in real life, I'll be taking advantage of playing it on Croco Island.

Which piece from the Lacoste x Minecraft collection
is your favorite? Why?

Shubble: The sweatshirt dress was one of the most comfortable pieces I got to wear! And it’s really easy to wear! I can definitely see myself lounging around in it quite often or running errands, while staying comfortable but looking put together.

AtomicMari: The live-in sweatshirts and sweats are my favorite. I also love the words and phrases that are written on the collection — "inclusive", "creative", "craft your way." I think it echoes the vibes and feel of the game, its community, and the way Minecraft disrupted the gaming world in an unexpected way.

What kind of a relationship do you see growing between fashion and gaming? Either in the real or virtual world?

Shubble: This is a big step for such an amazing and iconic clothing brand to collaborate with a game like Minecraft. I thought I’d never see a collection so cool and wearable. I’d love to see more crossover, as I love fashion so much, but there haven’t been a lot of ways for me to incorporate my love of games in a cool way. And I think we already see it in the virtual world with games allowing different skins or various options in character creation! I hope now we’ll see it more!

AtomicMari: I've always seen fashion in games as a way to visualize what I'd like to wear in the real world — as if it's a virtual mood board. I can confidently say that a lot of my fashion has been inspired by the characters and avatars I've played as and I do think it will be more commonplace for the lines of virtual and real worlds to continue blurring.

How has being a girl gamer changed since you first started?

Shubble: When I started, there were only a handful of other girls in the space that I could look up to. But the space has become so much more inclusive, with there being so much opportunity for anyone of any gender. Of course, there’s always more work to be done, but it’s amazing the number of likeminded communities out there now, where there’s always going to be somewhere for anyone to feel they belong! Which was a big part of me starting my journey as a gamer, video maker and streamer. Having a space where people could be comfortable and safe being themselves.

AtomicMari: Girls and women weren't represented much in the video game commercials and advertising that I grew up with. These days, women are more prominent in the industry and we're seen more in key visuals to reflect the gaming community — however, there's still a lot more work to be done for inclusion and representation and I hope we all continue to champion an industry that forges a path for everyone.
