KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY
We’re so excited about the potential return of playoff basketball that we dug up this old-school ad from the days of the two-handed set shot: the early 1950s.
We’ve made kids’ overalls since the 1800s, and we introduced the world’s first women’s jeans in the 1930s, but until the ’50s, with advertisements like this, we’d never marketed to families. This ad even references a college campus — remember campuses? — and channels mid-century Americana with deep-cuffed jeans and canvas high-tops.
The ad also contains a couple of cool Easter eggs. The first is the antique logo, which predates the Batwing that’s been with us since 1967. Also, the E in Levi’s® is capitalized — we lower-cased it on the tiny red tab on our pockets in 1971. So now you know: if you ever see a pair of our Big E jeans at a thrift store or flea market, grab them. You’ll have this ad to thank.
