You don't want to miss this.
What a great weekend we have in store for you! We have a sold-out show the incredible David Wilcox on Friday night. Then Front Country is bringing their eclectic and dynamic bluegrass sound to our stage on Saturday night. Then we wrap up our weekend with an awesome show by Danny O'Keefe who will be joined by friend of McCabe's, Joel Tepp! We also have THREE great new classes, an ex-Employee Spotlight on the very talented Emma Ruth Rundle, and we are asking YOU to tell us your favorite McCabe's experience!
This Weekend at McCabe's
Considered a 'songwriter's songwriter', his songs have been covered by artists such as k.d. lang and many others. In addition to his writing prowess, his skills as a performer and storyteller are unmatched. He holds audiences rapt with nothing more than a single guitar, thoroughly written songs, a fearless ability to mine the depths of human emotions of joy, sorrow and everything in between, and all tempered by a quick and wry wit. In live performance, David loves making up a spontaneous song for an audience member in need.  Anyone who has seen Wilcox perform more than once or twice has seen him concoct one of his “Musical Medicine” songs on the spot, full of lyrical artistry and musical inventiveness, like some kind of uncanny parlor trick.

David Wilcox finds inspiration wherever he looks. The songs in turn provide inspiration to longtime listeners as well as those finding him for the first time. It’s in the song and the craftsmanship; it’s medicine for the soul; it’s story; it’s a restless spirituality.

An acoustic band born in the land of tech innovation, Front Country was unlikely to be accepted as an authentic American roots band out of the gate. Cutting their teeth in progressive bluegrass jams in San Francisco’s Mission District and rehearsing across the bay in Oakland, they fashioned their own take on roots music and Indie Folk, with the tools they had on hand. A mandolinist with a degree in composition and classical guitar. A guitarist trained in rock and world music. A bassist equally versed in jazz and newgrass. A violinist with technique that could seamlessly hop between honky tonk and electropop. And a female lead singer with grit and soul that was also a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. In a wood-paneled country dive bar in the shadow of the San Francisco skyline, Front Country forged a sound hell bent on merging the musical past with the future. The result lies somewhere between Indie Folk and Americana, in a nether-region they've come to embrace as their own.
In the 1970's, Danny O'Keefe put out a string of albums that cemented his reputation as being among the best songwriters of his generation. These days, casual fans know him best for his Top Ten hit "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues" or Jackson Browne's version of "The Road" from the classic Running On Empty album. But the story didn't end in the 70's. He recorded "The Day To Day" in 1985 with the two Top Twenty Adult Contemporary songs "Along For The Ride" and "Someday". Working with Bob Dylan's company, Special Rider Music, he co-wrote "Well, Well, Well" with Bob and other songs successfully recorded by artists like Nickel Creek, Alison Krauss, and Alan Jackson.

In 2000 he began recording again with "Runnin' From the Devil", following it with “Don’t Ask” (with Bill Braun), "In Time", "Light Leaves the West", and now the new recording "Home". There are several new projects in the planning stages.
A described by country, Celtic and folk singer and multi-instrumentalist, Tim O'Brien, "Look in the dictionary under "singer songwriter" and you'll see a picture of Danny O'Keefe. His is the complete package: a strong performer with a batch of amazing songs. His guitar and voice lead you beyond ditty world, deep into the land of poetry."
