An Unlikely Match-Up: Sigurd vs. Theseus This week's Unlikely Match-Up involves monster killers from Norse and Greek mythologies. Facing each other in this fight are Sigurd, legendary hero of a Norse saga, and Theseus, the mythical hero king of Athens. Son of a warrior who could only be defeated by Odin in battle, Sigurd is known for slaying the dwarf turned poison-breathing dragon Fafnir. With Odin advising him and wielding the reforged, anvil-splitting sword of his father, Sigurd defeated the beast. Bathing in its blood, he gained near-invulnerability. He took its hoard of cursed gold and cooked up its heart, which gave him the gift of prophecy and, if that wasn't enough, the ability to converse with birds. But how will Sigurd manage against the demigod Theseus? The son of Aegus, an early king of Athens, Theseus's birth was blessed by Poseidon, granting him more than mortal strength and cunning. This demigod is best known for two things: his Six Labors, where he cleared wicked entities from the six entrances to the Underworld on the way to claim his birthright in Athens, and for decapitating the Minotaur deep within the Labyrinth. Both are brutal beast slayers, but who will prove victorious in this battle? You decide! Vote Now Do you have an idea for an Unlikely Match-Up you would like to see?
