An Unlikely Match-Up: Leonidas vs. Beowulf Popularized by modern action movies made about their lives, two warrior kings of history and legend go head to head in this Unlikely Match-Up! Suggested by fan Matthew Kuhl, its Leonidas, King of Sparta, against the mythical king of Geatland, Beowulf. One of the few Spartan kings to actually undergo the rigorous training of a Spartan, Leonidas had the support of his people and the confidence of the allied Greek forces, which led to his leadership at the Battle of Thermopylae. Vastly outnumbered, Leonidas and his 300 Spartans fought to the very end against odds they could not beat. Even when Xerxes, leader of the invading Persian army, offered to spare their lives, Leonidas and his Spartans refused to give up. But how will the tenacious fighting spirit of Leonidas face up against the larger-than-life hero Beowulf? From the oldest surviving Old English poem, the warrior Beowulf proved his might in defeating not only the monstrous Grendel, but Grendels mom, too. Strong enough to rip off the arms of monsters with his bare hands, Beowulf later became a mighty king in his own right as well as a dragon slayer. So who will win this Unlikely Match-Up?
