BLAST FROM THE KICKZ PAST

- EP. 8 - THE DAY WE SAID GOODBYE TO KOBE -

This one hurts. In October 2017 we met the great Kobe Bryant in Paris. Again. For our KICKZ editor-in-chief, Rob, it was the fourth time talking to the Lakers legend over the span of 20 years. So they knew each other.

This time they chatted extensively about his “Dear Basketball” short film which just had its world premiere. They talked about the fact that there was significant Oscar buzz surrounding the film, his friendship with composer GOAT John Williams, and how he learned to be a better a leader on the court because of him. About how time flies, how Mamba Mentality works and how it means making every single day count. And Kobe did just that.

Just a couple of months later Kobe won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, becoming the first professional athlete ever to win an Oscar. A little over two years later the unthinkable happened and Kobe Bryant tragically died in a helicopter crash. His legacy at KICKZ and throughout the whole basketball world will live forever.
