Pataxó Indigenous Community

The Pataxó are an indigenous ethnic group in Brazil that is struggling to retain their hold on their traditional lands and their culture.

Pataxó crafts are an important source of the community's livelihood and they are usually sold to tourists visiting the area. With the pandemic, tourists are no longer visiting and so the opportunity to sell their work to NOVICA is a great lifeline.

Tigê, a Pataxó leader, is coordinating the communication with the indigenous artisans, collecting the items from the villages and shipping them to the NOVICA office in Rio.
