The Artisan Behind the Dress

Shashi Sehgal, the artisan behind the Maxi Dress, "Marigold Muse" (featured above) reveals her determination to break through suffocating societal norms that were holding her back.

"It's been a tough journey in life and I found it hard to get started. I got inspiration from the Hindu goddess Maa Tarini — a fierce manifestation of all-powerful Shakti, the divine feminine force of life. It is this spirit that gave me the courage to break free from the stifling patriarchy of my time and launch my own clothing brand."

Making a success of the business took a lot of hard work, dedication and willpower. Going it alone wasn't easy and Shashi credits the help of loved ones with turning her dream into a thriving family venture.

"Working with your loved ones is great. I personally guide them in all the areas of our work and feel privileged that they incorporate these ideas. This makes me feel energetic and proud of them. Most importantly, I love being around them."
