LIVING CULTURAL HERITAGE | | | The Smithsonian Folklife Festival takes place every June in Washington, D.C. For two weeks, international artisans, storytellers, and craftspeople come together to share their time-honored traditions and cultural practices with the world.
We want to wish all our friends at the Folklife Festival every success. You can find these Smithsonian artisans on our website — living legends like Armen Ohanyan, a self-taught Armenian wood carver, who creates masterpieces in beech, cherry and plum wood; or Brazilian artist J. Borges, who makes beautiful art through his woodcut designs. He has been chosen to illustrate the United Nations annual calendar, with his woodcut "Life in the Forest" opening the year, and he has been declared a Living Heritage in his home state. | | | | |
