For the women of K’amolon K’i K’ojonel, the backstrap loom is a new lease on life.

In 1987, a group of women widowed by Guatemala’s brutal civil war got together and decided to transform loss and poverty into strength and resilience — and they did it all through the art of weaving.

The name K’amolon K’i K’ojonel is an ancient Mayan phrase that means “let’s get together.” Over three decades later, the group is stronger than ever. With bamboo fibers and natural dyes, they take ownership over their lives and livelihoods. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate fall than with the vibrant colors and lush textures of these chenille scarves, shawls and ponchos inspired by traditional Guatemalan clothing.
