A Win-Win for All | It began (as things like this always begin) unexpectedly.
A Ghanaian mask carver, Wilson Aboagye, discovered that a group of local school children needed new uniforms. Novica jumped into action — but with a twist. First, a soccer match between Novica’s region office and the local school. The school won by two well-earned goals, and the new uniforms were delivered.
Later, Novica CEO (and avid soccer player himself), Roberto Milk, saw video clips of the match. While he was impressed with the skills of the players, it was clear that the soccer field itself was in dire need of renovation. The idea for a new project was born. But, of course, it too would be built on friendly competition.
Roberto was challenged to hike to the top of a 14,000 foot mountain in Colorado and juggle a soccer ball 100 times with a group of local club soccer players. He accepted and completed the task. When it got back to the Ghanaian soccer players, they decided to match Roberto’s effort with their juggling skills of their own. And so #100Anywhere was born. | | It kicked off a massive fundraising effort from the local Gunnison Colorado community to help support the construction of a new soccer field. It would become a true international effort. The District Chief Executive in Ghana contributed an excavator. The elders of Dumpong Village, along with the District Education office, the Parent Teacher Association, teachers, pupils, Novica artisans and staff all participated.
The happiness that this soccer field brings to the school and the community has no price. How does one measure the boundless joy of a well-played soccer game? How does one quantify the immense pleasure and pride that comes along with tending and maintaining such a beautiful field?
Happiness may be immeasurable. But we sure know what it looks like when we see it.
