Doca Leite has dedicated his career to preserving the ceramic art traditions of the pre-Hispanic Marajoara culture, which dated from 350 to 1400 AD in the Brazilian Amazon. The intricate geometric motifs in bold red and black that he paints on his pieces make a striking and beautiful tribute to an ancient artistic legacy.

In his words...

“The best thing that happened in my life was pottery — it gave me everything! I've always worked with ceramics and, from this art, I could earn a livelihood, raise my children and, most important, preserve the legacy of an ancient culture.”
