Evelyn Kafui Ahianyo | West Africa

Motherhood is deeply ingrained in Evelyn Kafui Ahianyo. Not only does she care for her own children, she is also dedicated to the children of the carvers that work by her side. She says, “I can remember an incident in 2013 that has left a lasting memory on my mind and in my heart.” One of her workers’ children was critically ill and needed a blood transfusion. Evelyn was there for the family, who were so touched that they named a daughter after her. She has also taken on the enormous role of nurturing and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Ghana. In this way, she is a mother figure to so many.

When her baby was born, Seema left her job to assume her new role as mother. But her love of design was strong and her need to create was unwavering. So, with a baby on her hip, she embarked on a new journey as an artisan.
