Khalid Ali | India
Khalid Ali knows what he is thankful for. “One of the greatest gifts that I have ever received from God is when my elder daughter first called me ‘papa.’ I got to become a father because of her. Now I am blessed with two beautiful daughters.” He expresses his joy upon returning home from a long day at work. “Both my daughters run to give me a big hug. All the stress of the day melts away at that very moment.”

Of his own father, Khalid has beautiful memories. He recalls watching movies with him in the theater and traveling to different destinations together. His hopes for his children are the hopes that transcend boundaries to unite all parents around the world — "to give them a better education and fulfill their dreams so that they become independent, strong, confident and practical in their own lives."

Armando Sobreyra | Mexico
When Armando Sobreyra’s second child was born, his wife was still recovering from surgery, so it fell to him to welcome his little girl into the world. “I held my daughter during the first moments of her life. I gave her her first bottle and changed her first diaper. It’s a moment I remember and greatly treasure.”

Of his own role as a father, Armando hopes to impart the lessons he has learned in life. “A teacher teaches what he has learned from the mistakes he’s made during his life so that his students don’t make those same mistakes. In this way, the student should be better than the teacher. I believe my work as a father and my duty to my children is to give them the tools to become better human beings than I could be.”

Ali Mohammed | West Africa
In addition to his two biological sons, Ali Mohammed supports two boys from the neighborhood who used to run errands for him. “I got to know them and realized their fathers had passed on and their mothers were struggling to put them through school.” Ali offered to help with the cost of education. When one of the boys, Andy, visited on Father’s Day last year to express his gratitude with a bar of chocolate, Ali was touched. “I didn’t know Andy saw me as a father figure. I was moved to tears.”

For Ali, the day usually passes without fanfare. He has no memory of his own father, who died when Ali was one year old. “In Ghana, Mother’s Day is more publicized, so often the day passes without me noticing it.” But not this year. This year, Ali has plans in mind. “I am going to celebrate with all my four sons. I plan on taking them to the cinema to watch a movie and eat out. It’s going to be exciting.”
