A Year Without War (AYWW) founder Joe White serves as an honorary judge of NOVICA’s World Peace Project: A Global Arts Initiative. White has traveled the world in pursuit of peace, speaking at the United Nations and meeting with leaders, lobbyists, and Nobel Peace Prize winners. He was honored for his “Worldwide impact in the service of peace” with the 2019 United Nations Association of the USA Peace Prize award.
When White accepted the invitation to participate in NOVICA’s ongoing World Peace Project exhibition as an honorary juror, we knew he would bring his rich perspective, intellectual analysis, and keen eye to each of the finalists.
We hope you enjoy his elegant ruminations on peace, published in our recent interview with him on the NOVICA blog. Meanwhile, two highlights:
White commented about Peruvian weaver Teofilo Choquecahua’s “Songs of Peace” tapestry: “The musician in this South American textile has such a clear-eyed, unflinching gaze.... This reminds us that the universal language of music can uplift, inspire and make us all smile with fascination for what lies ahead.”
Complimenting a unique peace-themed necklace made of recycled materials by Indian artisan Vrinda Gokhale, White notes: “The diverse colors compliment each other with a richness that none of them would have had alone. A needed reminder of the magic of composition — that the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts.” | | |
