Three hours from Chang Mai stands an orphanage that houses 38 children in the region of Ban Kae Noi, Thailand. The children sleep in bunk beds, with colorful blankets and pillows on each mattress. But overhead, the roof has gaping holes where the tile has broken and exposes the dormitory to the elements. Because the orphanage is surrounded by large trees, it is susceptible to falling branches and erosion from intense storms during the rainy season, which is currently upon them.
When NOVICA learned about the state of the roof from the orphanage’s caregiver, we knew it would be a perfect Happiness Project for this summer. So, on August 19, World Humanitarian Day, we are excited to announce the arrival of a new roof made of weather-resistant metal sheeting.
In addition to providing materials and labor, NOVICA’s Thailand region team will greet the children with food, entertainment and much-needed supplies.
Projects like these are made possible because of customers like you who support global artisans and handmade products. Thank you — from all of us at NOVICA and all the children who will now sleep under a new roof. | | |
