Not your average tote, the handbag art scene in Thailand is going strong. From crocheted cotton catchalls to patchwork hobo bags, you’ll find a gorgeous array of treasures to suit your taste.
One of our recent favorites is artisan Kunlaya Pangsiri, whose absolutely stunning works are a feast for the eyes. When Kunlaya’s daughter was just one year old, her husband passed away, and she found herself looking for work. At first, it was just simple sewing jobs, but over time, she began to find her own footing as a seamstress. Today, she infuses her handbags with stunning, colorful flourishes, incorporating traditional Hill Tribe fabric into each creation.
Some are decorated with aluminum and boxwood beads; others boast eye-catching details, like a rattan handle and colorful pom poms. Each one is equally captivating and a delightful expression of a true artist’s imagination at work. | | |
