In 1939, Thailand changed its name. Previously, the country had been called Siam, where a beautiful, indigenous breed of cat roamed the streets. Depictions of the Siamese cat can be found on artworks and cultural artifacts that date back through the ages. Some Buddhists even believe that cats are holy creatures. Once a symbol of royalty and good luck, cats of all types continue to inspire Thai artisans and creators today … a fitting focus for National Pet Day today.
