Build of the Week
We had some fun with our Build of the Week this week. We knew we were going to the range and decided to combine some known favorites and some new favorites to put together a new old rifle build that could achieve a little distance and look the part.

One of the goals with this build was versatility. We wanted to put something together that would be usable for close-quarters engagements, but easily adaptable to reach out and touch medium-range targets.

Shop BLK LBL Bipod
Something Known: BLK LBL Bipod

The BLK LBL Bipod lived on this gun close to a year ago, we had replaced it with a different rail and bipod combination for a while, but decided it was time to go back to BLK LBL’s innovative integral bipod system in order to create a gun that was able to get some distance but was also easily usable in close quarters scenarios.

Designed and manufactured in Canada, the BLK LBL sits flush with the rail when it’s not in use, and then is deployed using large metal buttons that sit on top of the bipod’s ball and socket joints.

The BLK LBL holds a lot of the same benefits as a traditional bipod. The joints don’t hold a lot of tension, so movement between targets is fluid and readjustment is easy. The legs extend for 6.5” to 9.5” and lock in place. The ball and socket joints allow for 40 degrees of tilt so the scope can be leveled regardless of the terrain.

While the way the bipod pulls up into the rail is what makes this design innovative, there are a lot of other features that the BLK LBL brings. For example, the barrel-through layout, natural to the rail-integrated design, allows the barrel to sit inside the bipod instead of on top of it. This results in improved stability and a better feel while you’re aiming the gun.

Devil Dog Concepts Hard Charger
Something Known: Devil Dog Concepts Hard Charger

The Devil Dog Concepts Hard Charger is another part that is familiar to this gun, and I have found it particularly useful for bipod systems. On a setup like this, it allows you to charge the rifle without losing your cheek-weld, or your view of the target.

The Devil Dog Concepts Hard Charger is designed to change any standard AR-15 or AR-10 platform into a side-charging system. The non-reciprocal design replaces the existing charging handle and attaches to a top Picatinny rail, making it super simple to install.

The Hard Charger was designed to solve common issues with the standard charging handle seen by military and law enforcement personnel. It utilizes gross motor skills and has five different pull handle options, from traditional to extended competition, so that users can customize their charging handle to fit their purpose and preference. The Hard Charger is also customizable depending on your optic set up and can be mounted in three different rail slots depending on where you want the Hard Charger to sit on your Picatinny rail.

Rainier Arms AR-15 QD Stock Adapter Kit by Rellim Arms
Something New: Rellim Arms Stock Adapter Kit

The Rellim Arms replaces the rifle’s buffer and buffer tube so that the stock can be completely removed, shortening the footprint of the gun for easier transport and carry. It was a good addition to this gun, which for a .223 can be a little large to just stick in the back of a car and take to the range.

The Rellim Arms Stock Adapter Kit is CNC machined from 7075 T6 Aluminum and features a Mil-spec Type II Class 2 Hardcoat Anodizing. It is manufactured and assembled in the USA and includes a limited lifetime warranty.

It is important to note that the gun cannot be fired without the stock attached. This is actually a key detail that helps keep your gun legal since in an operational format a rifle must be at least 26” in length.

Swampfox Trihawk 3x30 MOA Prism Sight
Something New: Swampfox Trihawk 3x30 MOA Prism Sight

Swampfox is a new optics company that is becoming a common name in the tactical industry. They are dedicated to designing and building reliable, high-performance tactical optics and making them available at affordable prices. So far that’s exactly what they’ve done.

The Trihawk is a 3X scope features a super wide, true ten-degree field of view and was a good option for a gun that seems to have ended up ideal for quicker engagements at medium range. The Trident reticle is good for fast acquisition up close - so when the BLK LBL is folded in - but also has the medium-range capability and is available with either 5.56/.308 BDC or MOA ladder in red or green.
