Everything is a Dumpling

Everyone at the SAVEUR office is a little obsessed with dumplings. And why wouldn’t we be? They’re such a perfect way to eat, and almost anywhere you go in the world, you’ll find some version of a dumpling. To quote Dumpling Galaxy co-author Max Falkowitz, “Dumplings may be the perfect food: protein, vegetable, and seasoning all wrapped in a tidy parcel of starch.” The names might differ from place to place, but we think they’re perfect no matter where you find them.

In Turkey, you’ll find manti, which may or may not have come to the country via the Silk Road. Our recipe stuffs them with lamb, and they’re topped with the most lovely yogurt and brown butter tomato sauce. If you’re going for Chinese dumplings, there are oh so many ways to stuff them and cook them (and some of them even involve soup). We’re even going to go so far as to say that pear ravioli can count as an incredibly delicious and cheesy Italian dumpling.
