In the build up to her Maui Pro win in Hawaii, Tyler Wright’s training regime was more varied than you might think. Obviously, surfing was a big part of it but she also did regular dance sessions at a studio on the Gold Coast, Ginastica Natural, a body-weight workout designed for surfers, with Kid Peligro and Breath Enhancement Training with Mark Visser. Tyler is all about training in ways that help her move her body differently. Whatever you think of the approach, you can’t argue with the results!

Get flexible

Thou shalt do (at least) half an hour’s yoga a day. Yoga is the domestic physical activity par excellence, and for many surfers (Gerry Lopez, Dave Rastovich, and Taylor Knox among them) an essential supplement to riding waves. On top of the intrinsic physical and mental benefits, it will help make you a stronger, better balanced surfer, and (crucially) less susceptible to injury.

Having got fit and flexible, or having given up trying, you’re ready to surf the sofa. If you decide to wear clothes while you’re stuck at home, we’d suggest the following low-maintenance legwear.
