| It’s been a big twelve months for outdoor swimming, as more and more people have been turned onto the physical and mental benefits of regular immersion in wild (and often fairly cold) water. For those who've taken the plunge, or are thinking about dipping a toe in the water, Nike Swim has released two epic swimwear lines: the Performance and – new for this season – the Icon. Each comes with carefully specified design and materials, making it easier to connect to the water in the way that suits you best. | | | | | | | |

| Sold on the look and the specs, we decided to put the Nike Swim range to the test, enlisting the help of Wild Swimming Cornwall co-founder Lydia Paleschi and friends. How does the range match up against the requirements of five different cold-water swimmers? | | | | | | | |

|
| Our ultimate nature lover and all-round cold-water addict chose the Icon Multi Logo U-back Swimsuit to trial in one of Cornwall’s turquoise harbours. The eco-conscious, quick-dry material was a key draw (perfect for pre-work dips!), as was the fun all-over logo print. A low scooped neckline and low scoop back are complimented by the cheeky bum cut to offer medium coverage, which ensured enough security for swimming, jumping and diving into the water from the harbour wall. Like all the Icon and Performance pieces, the high cut on the leg is both comfortable and liberating. | | | | |

| An element of resistance is natural when confronted with getting into the cool waters of the UK. For those with a more tentative approach to cold-water swimming, the Icon Logo Tape Scoop Neck Bikini Top and Banded Bikini Bottom provide an eye-catching streetwear-inspired look. Great for swimming but also for in and around the water activities, this bikini offers light support and looks amazing both on and off the beach. | | | | |

| With over 200,000 km of watercourse in the UK, no swimwear test would be complete without a swim in the river, where currents and long distances make swimwear security paramount to any successful plunge. Our river swimmer opted for the Performance HydraStrong Cutout Swimsuit, whose thin straps and cutout sides allowed a full range of movement in the shoulders. Designed to offer medium support and coverage, the suit stayed in place during front crawl and breaststroke both with and against the current. | | | | |

| There are few things more refreshing than stepping into a cold body of water after exercise. When we saw the Performance Essential Racerback Bikini Top and Scoop Bottoms we knew we’d found the ultimate swimwear suitable for both land and sea workouts. After testing it out for a run through coastal dunes, we can confirm that it’s both secure and comfortable enough to wear under workout gear before heading into the sea for a skin-tingling and revitalising dip. | | | | |

| The Performance Solid Spiderback One-piece was the natural choice for our open water swimmer, with the high leg rise sitting above the hips for a full range of movement, and a high neckline offering maximum security for race starts, dive starts and high-speed swimming in all conditions. A careful balance of elasticity through the Spiderback chassis maintains a secure fit and shape, without restricting movement as you glide through the water. | | | | |

| It’s worth bearing in mind that cold water swimming comes with a number of risks, so always swim with someone else. If you have no option but to swim alone, tell someone when and where you are going and stay close to the shoreline. It’s also important to stay visible in the water at all times and that you familiarise yourself with the risks present before entering the water. | | | | |
