AMEX AROUND THE WORLD | It may be called American Express, but the card issuer has global appeal, with cardmembers all around the world. Amex's transferrable-points program is still called Membership Rewards in other countries, but point valuations can vary drastically, and benefits and perks do, too. Here in the U.S., points can typically be transferred to airline and hotel partners at a 1:1 ratio, but that certainly isn't the case everywhere — in Hong Kong, for example, the rate is wildly different, and most commonly 15:1.
