US tech companies are cutting ties with Huawei following an order from the Trump administration. The fallout is going to create a lot of problems for the Chinese tech giant. Most immediately, it means Huawei has lost access to all of the Googleified parts of Android, including the Play Store.

It's a huge loss that, at least for the moment, seems to suddenly and dramatically halt the momentum of one of Android's biggest players. It's hard to say exactly how this will shake out, but it's very bad news for Huawei — just as it was beginning to pose a real threat to Samsung when it comes to smartphone sales.
