Autoplaying video is bad, and if we can't all agree on that, I'm not sure how much hope there is for us to agree on anything.

The problem is really the glut of obnoxious online ads these days, more than it's autoplay itself. So many websites open up autoplaying videos in the corner of the screen or have little ad boxes that animate as you scroll. For me, at least, it's really distracting when I'm trying to read the article that actually brought me to the page.

So maybe I don't want an autoplaying video ban, maybe I just want a bad ads ban. But wiping out all automatically moving content on the internet seems like an overbearing but acceptable start. Sorry, GIFs.
