I can't weigh in on the Android Q back gesture debate, because I haven't used the beta yet. But for this fleeting moment in time, I want to do something totally unnecessary: defend Android P's 'pill and back button' navigation. It's a bizarre mix of metaphors. And yet... it works fairly well! The back button is by far the most used button on my phone, and so making it a quick tap, rather than a swipe, is actually quite handy. Meanwhile, the pill is a small improvement over the two buttons it replaces, making it just a little bit quicker to switch between apps. I don't know that I'll miss it when it's gone, but I do think the strange setup turned out a lot less bad than we all initially assumed. -Jake |
