My first and only iPad was the original iPad mini from 2012. It was kind of slow at the time, and over the years, as new iOS updates got added to it, it became even slower.

Eventually, all that mattered to me was whether or not it could still play Hearthstone. After a few years, it still could... though it would occasionally crash mid-game. I could usually restart Hearthstone and rejoin the game fast enough to not lose a turn, but eventually, the crashes just took too long. So I gave up.

Fortunately, Apple's newest iPads, including the one announced today, are launching with much more capable specs, which should keep them alive and relevant for longer.
