Tweetbot is my favorite Twitter app around. Mainly because, unlike Twitter's actual applications, it sticks to a strict, rev-chron feed of what people I follow post, without any of the ads, suggested tweets, sponsored content, and days-old algorithmic tweets that appear in Twitter's first-party apps. Oh, and the excellent and functional mute filters, which are fantastic.

There's a new version of the Mac OS X Tweetbot out today, and Tapbots (the developer) is charging $10 for it, even for existing owners of Tweetbot for Mac.

My first reaction was outrage: "How DARE they charge me again for an app I've already bought." But then I thought about it a bit more. I use the app every day, it's a major upgrade, and I last bought it for $10 years ago. Developers have to eat, too, and if I want Tweetbot (and other apps like it) to continue to exist... maybe paid upgrades are the answer?
