I’m sure I’m seriously late to this realization, but l didn’t notice before today how the three big game console companies each have a US political party color code: red for Nintendo, green for Xbox, and blue for Sony.

Today, red and green have teamed up to shame blue for not allowing cross-play. It’s such a rhetorical slam dunk that I’m almost turned off by the whole scene. Yes, obviously, Sony is being dumb and customer-hostile by blocking cross-play on games like Fortnite, Minecraft, and Rocket League. But now that it’s becoming so obviously political, down to the very color codes — what’s next, animal mascots? — I think I’d rather sit out this war and save my rage for something more personal.

Like the disgraceful lack of Skate 4 at this year’s E3. That’s my political affiliation: skateboards.
