I haven’t seen the new Avengers movie, but I do use Reddit. Right now, as we speak, hundreds of thousands of Reddit users are trying to get banned en masse by a coin flip from the r/thanosdidnothingwrong subreddit.

Apparently it has something to do with “balance.”

I have seen Star Wars, and I’ve long been confused about this concept of “bringing balance to the Force.”

The word “balance” always reminds me of a childhood teeter-totter. I was always trying to get people to attempt to balance with me. Scoot up a little, lean a little back. Ah, there we are, equilibrium. But it would never last.

I guess what I’m saying is: balance is a fun goal but a fleeting achievement. And now the two largest film properties on the planet, Marvel and Star Wars, are apparently all about it.

Isn’t it convenient? Two universes, owned by Disney, explicitly designed to never achieve lasting peace. Balance dollars forever and ever.
