Word got out yesterday that Apple might release its next iPhone in three extra colors: red, blue, and orange. I'm not planning on buying one, but I'm still pretty excited by this — after years and years of dull, mostly black and white iPhones, we may finally be getting a real pop of color. Apple used to offer iPods in a bunch of different colors, so I'm surprised it's taken so long to do the same with iPhones. But I also increasingly have to wonder: do colors matter? So many people put a case on their phone anyway and wouldn't even see it. I still think it's important though. It feels like recognition that phones are fun, personal things, rather than beige machines designed for work. And for a device that's on or beside you close to 24/7, it seems important that you're happy with how it looks, even if you cover some of it up. -Jake |
