Amazon's Prime Day event is here, and it seems to be driving every electronics retailer a little crazy trying to compete. There are legitimately some good deals to be had, but the whole thing just reminds me how bizarre most stores' pricing schemes really are.

When you visit many retail chains — online or in stores — you'll almost always find some kind of sale going on. The whole thing seems to be meant to put pressure on customers and confuse them into thinking they're getting a deal. The worst part is, it clearly works: J.C. Penney tried ending these sales tactics earlier this decade, then immediately backpedaled after the plan quickly failed.

Now, if someone would email me when the pair of jeans I want is actually on sale, I'd appreciate it.
