Over the weekend, I decided to step away from the glow of my computer screen to head to the great outdoors and visit the beach. And since sand, water, and $999-plus phones don't really mix, I decided to dig up my old Nokia N8 from the bottom of my drawer, found a SIM adapter, and spent a day using the finest (maybe) phone 2010 had to offer.

Turns out, the mobile internet in 2010 wasn't... great. The web browser technically worked, in that I could slowly open Google and check my directions, but other than that, it was basically a feature phone. Still, the camera held up surprisingly well, and there was the pleasant surprise of finding all my music from high school on it.

But in the end, the N8's relative uselessness in 2018 served a nice benefit — it forced me to unplug and just leave it in my bag and actually enjoy the waves instead.
