As different as all the collections are, the one thing that American designers are talking about this season is the tariffs. “People become a little conscious about pricing,” says Bibhu Mohapatra. A.L.C.’s Andrea Lieberman has observed something similar: “What you buy and what you put on needs to be meaningful—special, but not so niche that you can’t wear it all the time.” And so, designers are compelled to think and act resourcefully. “You have to rise to the occasion,” as Sui put it.
